Background/History:
Even with Ai was young he was interested in swimming. One day he and his team were in a swimming competition, although his swim lost in prelims. However, during that swimming competition he watched another boy named Rin Matsuoka. Ai was so impressed with Rin's swimming that from that day forward he admired Rin and became driven to become a strong swimmer.
Years passed, and at the very least Ai was able to get into Samezuka Academy, famous for their very good swimming team. He got into the swim team as well, and was even roomed with his 'senpai' Rin. We don't necessarily see his first year, but his second year he spent a lot of his time hanging out with Rin when he could and, of course, practiced swimming. Although he wasn't a very strong swimmer and couldn't participate in the competition. Still, he was really there mostly to support Rin and help him through his difficult time his first year.
His second year Ai, much to his dismay, got a new roommate. Rather than being roommates with Rin he was then roommates with a new swimmer on the Swim team, Momotaro. At first he wasn't sure if he was going to get along with Momo, and was suddenly on the side that he had put Rin on his whole first year: senpai. But despite all of that, Momo and Ai became fairly close, at least to the point that Momo wasn't an annoyance to Ai.
That aside, Ai's third year was a bigger year to him. He worked and dedicated more time to swimming, going into the pool late at night to practice. His goal was to be a part of the relay team, and strove for it even more after he didn't make it past the prelims at regions. Eventually, another older student named Sousuke caught on to him trying to work harder for the relay and started to coach Ai. It was thanks to that Ai got better at his stroke, and Rin chose him to be a part of the relay.
They didn't win the relay, but to Ai ( and the rest of the group ) that was the most fun that they had and was most certainly the highlight of Ai's year. After all, after all the ups and downs that happened between the beginning of the year and the relay ( including nearly not doing the relay ), he had finally gotten the chance to swim with the person who he had admired ever since he was a child.
And to top it off, at the end of his third year Ai was appointed Captain of the swim team for the next year. His dedication and hard work towards swimming had pulled off.
Personality:
Aichirou is a lot like you would expect. Someone who looks up to another and does whatever he can to help and support that person. In general he's kind and helpful, and he's a kid that you can't really hate. All of this is true. Ai looks up to Rin and tries to do his best for Rin and encourages Rin as much as he can. Even when Rin was angry or said something mean, Ai was still there for him. Although his idolizing nearly borderlines on obsession in a way at the same time it doesn't. Because even though he does a lot to be with Rin or something, Ai also does things for himself.
Ai is bubbly and can sometimes go on and talk for a while. Going off and saying things even though he should probably keep quiet. He's one of those who have a heart of gold and can basically get along with just about anyone. There isn't anyone that he doesn't dislike or have something against. He also does his best to support himself and does what he can so he can get better. Not just for his teammates but for himself as well. His determination is strong, and with that can push through and learn to do things that he couldn't do before. Ai is someone that, while it might hurt, he tries not to let others get the better of him. That even if they push him away (example: Rin) sometimes he'll still press. When it comes down to it he can even be serious if need be.
But this doesn't mean that he is one of those who instantly becomes friends with people. Ai can actually be a bit shy, which plays in part to why he can sometimes be a chatterbox because his nervousness gets the better of him. And to couple with his nervousness sometimes he can be unsure with himself or a situation. Such as being able to get to swim with Rin, or something such as not sure if he'll be able to get along with Momotarou. He's also very emotional: crying in many instances such as being happy, sad, and so forth. Due to this he can likely be seen as a bit of a crybaby.
Though there are cases when Ai's bubbly self can't keep up, just like any other person. There are times that he needs someone else to help pick him up because he felt useless, or that despite all of his efforts they seemed to have been wasted. But even times like these that, with a little pick-me-up, Ai can easily be back onto his feet again. He isn't someone who will dwell on the sad for too long before. He'll try to find a good thing out of it, such as cheering for Momotarou in his race when Ai didn't win his. That hopefully, Momo will win for him.
He's a fan of cute things! He has a very distinct style when it comes to clothing, and actually expressions a sort of originality with it. In a way, Ai can also be seen as a little scatterbrained, yet organized. For a while he could never seem to keep his desk clean, yet he insisted that he can find things even in that mess and that it's better for him to study that way (spoilers: no). Ai also is a person who is a biit of a packrat by keeping things that even have the smallest sentimental value. Even if they're weird and probably shouldn't be where he has them. Sometimes he might also misunderstand things and even with his positivism might thing of the more negative side of things.
In general though, Ai is bubbly, yet can be easily nervous and shy. Determined, yet can sometimes find himself in a situation that he's unsure about himself or a situation. He's that person who while might try to be brave will find himself easily scared. He's able, for the most part, keep moving forward, though much like many others may find himself as standstill. He finds the little things important and the bigger things even more important. And let's not forget how much he idolizes Rin and strives to do so much in order to please Rin or get to swim with him. But if there is one thing that should be noted is that while much of his life seems to be around Rin that is not the core of his being.
Abilities/Powers:
Ai is just a human, so he doesn't have any special powers. Ability wise, he's a fairly good swimming, though he's actually still not the most athletic. However, the latter is due to his asthma than anything so if he put his mind and efforts into it he can still go a fair distance before having to rest thanks to plenty of endurance practice for swimming.

Becoming Team Captain was something that Aichirou didn't expect. Even through all his hard work it was never something that he could see in his future. But it happened, and Ai couldn't feel anymore accomplished. Well, other than finally being able to swim with Rin-Sempai in a relay. Arguably, that is what made the cake. Becoming team captain was just the cherry on top. However, Ai knows he'll be able to do it. With all the skills that he learns from Rin-Sempai as well as Yamazaki-Sempai. He'll pass them all down to the other teammates next year.
He carries these thoughts with him for the next few days, unable to think otherwise. He really couldn't feel much better than this, could he. And, even though he'll miss Rin in the next year he'll still have Momo-Kun, and all his other teammates. All of them that helped supported him and see his progress through the year. If anything happens, he knows that he'll be able to depend on them.
And thinking about that nearly causes him to tear up again. Oh, how he's really lucky to be in such a great situation. To be with such a great team. He really couldn't ask for more.
Though all of those feelings leave when he finds himself in a room that he doesn't recognize the next day. All those feelings of accomplishment, satisfaction, happiness instantly vanishes as panic sets in. This is not Samezuka Academy. Where is he? Where's Momo-Kun? Maybe, just maybe, is Rin-Sempai here? Yamazaki-Sempai?
He clutches his duck towel as he starts to look around and move. He'll find out where this place is. Hopefully?
